Katabasis: Journey into the Hell Within – Exploring Reality, Perception, and the Divine Mind
How Our Minds Shape Parallel Realms and the Matrix of Existence in the Shadows of of the Novel
R.F. Kuang recent publication of Katabasis is a mirror reflection of the philosophical and classical motifs of one’s descent to Hell famously referencing and making connections to Dante’s Inferno, along with the connection of the Greek story mythology of Orpheus and Eurydice.
What does this story reflect for spirituality
All writers in some shape of form are connected and tapped into either a story, dimensions, realms and reality. They serve as a voice who fictionalised and popularise, fantasy and spirituality for the masses to gently introducing and allowing our conscious and subconscious mind to be introduced to the possibilities in a gentle way as readers we can engage and follow through the world building with an inner dialogue and perspective narrative that “Oh this is just a story.”
While reading Katabasis, the topics of discussion and storyline, touches upon many interesting concepts that can be related to spirituality:
1. Dimensions / Realms
One of the most fascinating aspects of Katabasis is how the two main characters enter the world of Hell. The depiction of Hell resembles their academic life, suggesting that our reality and perception create parallel existences. This concept explores how dimensions and realms are shaped by our perception of reality. In truth, some souls, upon departing, enter what they believe they “deserve” or what cultural and societal programming dictates. The novel also philosophically suggests that Hell is merely a version of our reality, connected to our current existence, which is akin to a matrix. It serves as a gentle reminder that the mind is a powerful creator and that we are, in essence, the divine architects of our own reality.
2. Karma
Katabasis touches on karma gently with grace, that many of us have the misconception that Karma is form of credit and punishment, but Karma is simply an energy that reflects not only our current lives, but also our past, and ancestors programming and conditioning that lives in our body. Rather Karma comes simply as from our perceptions, energies, reactions to the world around us and it is through making conscious choices that we can alter or transform it.
3. Soul’s Journey into our Shadow: Discovering the Root Causes of Conditioning
This reflects Dantte’s Journey into Hell and Ascension, along with the main character travelling through another reality to find oneself. Going through the 7 deadly sins. As our character explores different scenes and realities, she is being challenged in why she held certain perspectives or reasons for why she behave and choose certain ways to response to event. Her descent and travel into hell is a symbolic and metaphorical of one’s journey descent into one’s deep subconscious and shadow. When we make peace to our deeper thoughts with reasons we come up with enlightenment, awakening. It is only when we have the courage and strength to find the root cause of programming and/or programming condition from childhood, ancestral and or past lives. Once it becomes realised, it gives us the opportunity to shift our perceptions and responses along with our reaction to similar events. Upon self realisation, passing through initiation, one would ascend, become empowered and stay in sovereignty. This is symbolic and representation of the classic hero’s journey.
4. Is suffering a must
In this story, the protagonist goes through many challenges and some are self-inflicted where she conditioned and programming that allow certain bypass of events in order to achieve her goal. We begin questioning whether those suffering is necessary or inevitable part from our human condition and mind leading to self-destruction. This is a reflection of human subconscious programming, and limiting belief that is constructed that is the driving momentum of humans living their lives. We create our own reality, and subconscious is a powerful creator, and the lessons will keep repeating in our experiences until we achieve realisation then we are able to make a different choice and decision. At this point, we can take reflection in our own lives and question where else we allowing or creating unnecessary suffering.
Stories are a great mirror, teacher and guide for us to pause and reflect in our lives and where that narratives it shows up relating to the character. At the same time it is an opportunity to re-create our own reality remembering we are divine creators.
